FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” This national nonprofit organization was founded by Segway inventor Dean Kamen and MIT professor Woodie Flowers in 1989, to inspire young peoples’ interest and participation in science and technology. The FIRST Vision is, “To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.” We will introduce several levels of FIRST competitions, including FIRST Lego League Jr. (FLL Jr.), FIRST Lego League (FLL), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), which cover students from K-12 grades.
